A new mobile diabetes unit is set to be launched by the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) this week. The initiative aims to provide care for diabetic patients in remote areas across the country, said Executive Director of QDA, Dr Abdulla Al Hamaq.

The mobile diabetes unit will comprise three rooms, one of which will be dedicated for lectures and awareness programmes and simple diagnostic procedures, while the second and third rooms will be used to provide eye care and foot care.

“The mobile facility will enable wide eye screening for retinopathy and help expert to check for diabetic foot diseases,” said Dr Al Hamaq.

“QDA and other health experts can go to remote places with all the facilities instead of having branches or facilities open there. Also we can go to schools and other public places for awareness programmes,” he said.
