Houseproud doesn’t mean OCD, or does it?

I’ve been married for just over a year and in that time I’ve seen my wife do the dishes no more than five or six times. If I don’t vacuum or dust, it just doesn’t happen and when I get home from a 10-hour day I’m the one sorting out the apartment because she’s been home all afternoon, smoking and dropping fag ash on the coffee table and leaving over-flowing ash trays on the dining-room table.

Even when she has a ‘sick day’ off work she doesn’t clean the apartment.  I feel like I spend my life cleaning. She says I have OCD, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to not leave unwashed dishes overnight, especially when our last apartment got infested with cockroaches and we eventually had to move.  I feel like I’m living in some sort of role-reversal hell where we always argue over stupid things like her not emptying her ashtray or leaving empty packets of crisps on the couch. I feel like a 1950s housewife! Am I the one being unreasonable or is she taking the mickey?

  1. Hahahaha! She has you trainned well ;)

  2. She sounds like a slob! Sorry! Employ a maid.

    • Get a maid……? I am sure people are still capable of cleaning up after themselves. Guess you want someone to do your work for you next?

    • … or another wife maybe???

      • Sucker for punishment?

      • Ooouch Crunch LOL

  3. Wow that sucks, I just got married and i hope my wife doesn’t do that. Try not cleaning and see how long she can live in filth for, if it doesn’t bother her than your screwed.

  4. You have got to be kidding me. A women who doesn’t clean up that is absurd!! I cannot believe how things have changed…..I am a working mom and get home every single night and make sure that we eat a decent meal and when my maid – who by the way works for me part time was away for 6 weeks I got home and cleaned every single day – no did not get extra help in. What amazes me is how often I speak to women that they do not cook at all. They expect that their husbands must come home after a days work and cook for them. What happened to being a partnership and both helping out!!!

    • I think your wife is careless, my friend had the same issue and ended up with divorce.

You don’t have kids yet, imagine what will happened with a baby in the house , I think you either clear it off with her, get a maid or better…. Change the wife !

  5. There is a different between a good clean once or twice a week and daily tidying up. We are two in my house now and we share the few chores left but we do our main cleaning and laundry on weekend. Why do you bother yourself so much – just be honest with her then or maybe she is right you have a problem with spotless look.

  6. All comments are rubbish. It’s not OCD to clean your home daily.
A.A.Ali how can you say there’s difference between cleaning daily or weekly?
We live in the desert and homes need to be cleaned daily.
I can imagine how you all live to take his request as a joke!

  7. Ewww, leave the place in a mess – let it pile up for a week or so – then invite all her friends over as a surprise.

  8. I cannot believe a woman having such attitutde towards household chores. How can she survive in a filthy and dirty home, and for how long?
